Hey everyone!

The new season is here. Finally!

It feels like an absolute age since the grand final last April; since that game, that
turnover and that goal. The memory of that game and the celebrations that ensued - anyone remember Tracey’s mad hatter dash onto the court? – will certainly be one that we will remember for a long time, but with a new season comes new games and outcomes, and we have to put that to the back of our mind.

We’ve been lucky this season that we’ve only two personnel changes, one of the fewest in the superleague, and I certainly think that can only help us going into the season. The majorityof this squad has been playing together for a good number of years now, which shows in our combinations. Obviously, we are sad to lose Rach to Lightning but Chelsea has slotted in brilliantly, she’s definitely the right fit for us in terms of personality. She does seem to share our sense of humour which is key to fitting into our team!

The move of Sara Hale to our defensive coach has been great for our unit. It really helps us to have her wealth of experience on the sidelines and I feel like I’ve learnt a lot from her in the short time we’ve had together.

So, what have we been up to since last April? Lots of holidays for everyone to recharge thebatteries, a few England tours and test series for some of the girls, a game v the AustralianDiamonds at Wright Robinson, charity netball, oh and the MGT.It was my second year of being involved with the charity netball and despite the loss it was a fantastic event and credit needs to go to Debbie and the volunteers for pulling it off. It was anincredible day for all involved and hopefully we can get it running again this year.

The MGT is always a key event for us at Thunder and is the way in which we remember ‘Big Mike’. So it’s always an honour to feature in the tournament and retain our title of course. Mike was a massive part in the development of many
North West netballers, myself included, so it’s only right that we remember him by doing what he loved most – playing netball and winning.

So, onto the season. We always seem to start with the box office game and I’m sure that Monday’s game v Storm will be no different. It will be a totally different affair to the grand final, but I’m sure it will be no less enthralling. Our teams do have a history and there is a real rivalry between the two sides. I expect a tough game, any game where you come up against a full international attacking end will be difficult, but it’s a challenge that we relish as a defensive end.

We’re all really looking forward to the game and the start of the season, it seems like it’s been forever since we took to the court in our black and gold dresses. And I’m sure we’ll do our two stars under our logo proud! So make it loud on Monday and we’ll see you out there!
