Thunder NPL Squad Announced

The Manchester Thunder NPL squad has been chosen following two competitive trial sessions.Head coach Paul Harper will be joined by Suzy Ashworth in the coaching set-up for the 2016 season. The squad includes Amy Clinton and Beccy Hoult, who have also been named in the Black and Yellows Superleague squad.Harper said: "I'm really pleased with the squad that we have selected for the forthcoming season. Five Thunder Players Selected in England Squad

Five Thunder players have been included in the England Roses squad to play Australia in the international test series in January.Natalie Haythornthwaite, Jodie Gibson, Helen Housby, Laura Malcolm and Sara Bayman have all been picked in the 12-player squad for the three matches in London and Liverpool.Black and Yellows captain Bayman has been chosen by England and former Thunder coach Tracey Neville to skipper her country. England Netball is delighted to announce the squad to face Australia in the three-match Vitality Netball International Series next month.​The team will welcome Australia for the first test in Liverpool at the Echo Arena on January 20th, then they’ll move to London and the Copper Box Arena on January 22nd and 24th. Thunder Squad named for 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague Season

Dan Ryan has named his Manchester Thunder squad for the 2016 Vitality Superleague season.New signings Natalie Haythornthwaite, Malysha Kelly and Liana Leota join a 15-player Thunder squad that is a mix of youth and experience. Young shooter Amy Clinton's good form in the Next Generation and Mike Greenwood Trophy pre-season tournaments has been rewarded with a call-up to the Superleague team. Team Bath won the fourth annual Mike Greenwood Trophy, after beating hosts Manchester Thunder in the final. The tournament was set up to honour the memory of the former Black and Yellows coach, who died in 2011. Thunder went undefeated throughout the five round-Robin matches - all against Superleague teams - but ultimately lost the title they were bidding to win for the fourth time in a row. Coach Dan Ryan, who joined the side as head coach in the summer, said: "It was a disappointing end to what had been a great day.Before that match we'd produced some really good netball but just couldn't put it together in the final. Full credit to Team Bath, they came at us with a real sense of purpose and restricted us on what we were trying to do out there. Thunder sign Jamaican International Malysha Kelly

Manchester Thunder have made their final big name signing ahead of the 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague.Jamaican defender Malysha 'Mally' Kelly will join up with the Black and Yellows as the team's second import player. Kelly comes to England after recovering from a knee injury, which ruled her out of this summer's World Cup in Sydney. The experienced Jamaican defender played an integral role in the Sunshine Girls claiming bronze at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and captained the national side during their tour to England in 2014Discussing why she chose Thunder, the business school graduate, who waited until she had finished her studies to dedicate time to playing overseas in the Superleague, said: “Thunder struck me as a diverse group, which I found very interesting and I have always enjoyed my time in Manchester whenever I visited. About two years ago my interest in playing in the UK league evolved. Thunder started their Next Generation Superleague campaign with a double victory in the first weekend of competition.The Black and Yellows defeated Yorkshire Jets 41-35 in the first game, before seeing-off Team Northumbria 54-24 later in the day. It signals a positive start to pre-season preparations, with coach Dan Ryan seizing the opportunity to give his players competitive court time before the season begins.Ryan's side is competing in the tournament - aimed to bridge the gap between Superleague and NPL teams -  alongside five other Superleague outfits over three weekends, with Thunder hosting the final day's play on Saturday, November 7. The new coach, who travelled with the team to the first round of matches in Newcastle, said: "It was good to see some of our young talent out on court and we certainly made some good improvements across the two matches.  "We kept our focus very simple and we really just concentrated on doing the basic things well. Thunder have made a sensational swoop for New Zealand international Liana Leota.The versatile centre-courter heads to Manchester from ANZ side Central Pulse. Leota, 30, was forced to assess her options following her omission from the New Zealand World Cup squad. The player, who has won 41 caps for her country, was approached by new Black and Yellows coach Dan Ryan to join the Superleague team.Mum of three Leota, whose husband Johnny plays for Sale Sharks, is delighted to join her young family in Manchester.
