Laura Malcolm Player Blog 2016

Its been a very busy few weeks at Thunder. Last week Emma and I ran the Thunder Netball Easter Camps along with the help of Jodie, Ellie, Paul, Mally, Nat and Paige. We had a great week coaching both regular and new campers. On the Saturday following camps we had our big clash against Loughborough Lightning. After a close first round against the side and an awareness that Lightning needed to win the game to have any chance of reaching semi-finals we knew we were in for another tough round of VNSL. The game lived up to expectations and both teams came out fighting. I’m happy to say that although we weren’t completely happy with the performance we were happy to get another win. Following the game, we had our usual masses of fans crowding us on court for photos, autographs and high fives. Manchester Thunder 61 v 51 Loughborough Lightning

Manchester Thunder recorded a solid  61-51 win over Loughborough Lighting at the Thunderdome in round 12 of the Vitality Netball Superleague. The Black and Yellows' 10-goal victory keeps their hopes alive of finishing at the summit of the Superleague table at the end of the regular season, and with it a favourable home semi final tie. It was a scrappy game in parts but generally, Thunder dominated, especially in defence, with Jodie Gibson colossal at keeper and later goal defence.Coach Dan Ryan was content with his team's overall performance, with his side much more conformable against Lightning than last time out where they sneaked a tight, tense win. “It was a tough match. We knew Loughborough would come out hard,” he said. “We looked at what they did against us in that first game and did a lot of work in training to counteract that. Defensively our game across the board was really strong and that's what set us up for a 10-goal ... Preview: Manchester Thunder vs Loughborough Lightning

Manchester Thunder will look to get their season back on track against Loughborough Lightning following last week's cancelled game. The Black and Yellows were only a quarter in to their top of the table clash with Hertfordshire Mavericks and winning 14-9 when the umpires called it off. The officials had grown concerned for the players' safety when a roof leak - which was dripping directly onto court - couldn't be stopped. However, coach Dan Ryan will have been pleased with Thunder's strong start, especially in attack and the Australian also has the bonus of influential and experienced keeper Kerry Almond back in the contention following injury.Lightning will face a strong Thunder side at the Thunderdome, gunning for victory after last weekend's disappointment but they also have plenty to play for, with a top-four finish still a possibility. Despite being depleted by injury through Sasha Corbin and losing captain Jade Clarke to the ANZ, Lightning have plenty of ...
