Hundreds play in first Manchester Thunder Junior Netball Tournament

Manchester Thunder hosted their first ever Junior Tournament on one of the hottest days of the year on Saturday.

The event saw 49 teams from all over the north west descend upon Wright Robinson for a day of competition in the sunshine.

Youngsters aged between 10 and 13 competed in different age categories, with u10s and u11s taking part in round-robin games for the title of the Cup and Plate divisions.

Off court, there was plenty to do for the hundreds of spectators, with crazy catch competitions, name the bear, a raffle and a shooting contest.

Manchester Thunder Superleague squad players were on hand to meet young netballers, share tips, pose for photos and encourage teams.

Also attending the event was England Commonwealth Games champion Jodie Gibson, who brought her gold medal.

Atmosphere was electric with fantastic play from all teams

Sheonah Forbes, who heads up Thunder;s Pathway program and was the main organiser of the event, said: ” ‘The atmosphere at Thunder’s first tournament was amazing, and this was testament to our brilliant Thunder volunteers.

“Congratulations to all the teams who competed on the day as the standard was very high! We’re now looking forward to the adult one on Saturday ,23rd June’.
