Manchester Thunder captain Sara Bayman says it is ‘great’ to have the Netball World Cup coming to the North West.
The centre-courter, a senior member of the current England squad, was reacting to the announcement that Liverpool will host the 2019 tournament. The world’s best netball teams will descend on the north west of England in that summer. Bayman, 30, said: “It is great for England but especially for the north west – to have the world cup on your doorstep is exciting. It is great to have that home advantage, too. The England players are excited that their friends and family will be able to come along and support them a lot easier, compared to going all the way out to Sydney.” |
Having just played a Test Match against Wales in December at the Echo Arena, Bayman is confident it is the right flagship venue for such a major tournament. “The Echo is a great venue – it is close to the city centre, making it good for downtime with shopping and hotels nearby. It was popular when the FastNet tournament was here (in 2012) so I think other players around the world will be happy too.”
