2020 Superleague Fixtures Released

Introducing our full Fast5 Squad

We can confirm our full squad for the British Fast5 Netball All-Stars on Saturday, 12 October at the Copper Box in London. Joining our All-Stars Erin Bell and Takondwa Lwazi in Karen Greig's team will be confirmed players from Thunder's 2020 Superleague squad: Joyce Mvula, Kathryn Turner, Ashleigh Neal, Emma Dovey, Caroline O'Hanlon, Rebekah Airey and Loreen Ngwira The final spot will be taken by former Thunder training partner Taylor Cullen. Taylor has signed for Strathclyde Sirens for the 2020 Superleague season, however, they won't be playing in this year's Fast5. So, we have signed her up exclusively for this tournament and we can't wait to have her as part of the squad. More

Defensive duo back for 2020

Manchester Thunder's defensive duo of Emma Dovey and Rebekah Airey are returning to the Superleague Champions for 2020. Dovey, who has been Thunder Captain for the past three years and will continue in the role for the new season, has played her entire senior career with Thunder and is a hugely influential part of the team both on and off court. Airey, who joined Thunder last season, is one of the full-time athletes on England Netball's Vitality Roses programme. She will also play for England at the Netball Europe Open next weekend in Belfast. The pair take to nine the number of players confirmed for Thunder's title defence campaign, which begins in February. Another Malawi Queen joins Thunder as All-Star for Fast5 Championship

Manchester Thunder today name one of their All-Star players for next month's British Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship. Takondwa Lwazi, known to friends and supporters as Bonzo, was influential in centre court for the Malawi Queens at the Netball World Cup this summer in Liverpool and has been part of her country's squad for some time, including at last year's Commonwealth Games. The 27-year old Police Sergeant will link up with fellow Malawi stars Joyce Mvula and Lauren Ngwira, who have just signed for Thunder's 2020 Superleague campaign, as one of the two All-Stars who join the Thunder squad exclusively for the Championship at the Copper Box on 12 October. Eight teams from the Superleague will do battle in 12-minute matches with Thunder, the Vitality Netball Superleague Champions, looking to improve on disappointing finishes in the first two years of the event. Thunder unveil Erin Bell as first All-Star for Fast5 Championship

Manchester Thunder are bringing one of Australia’s best Netballers to the UK for the British Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship. The Vitality Netball Superleague Champions have named Erin Bell as one of their two all-star players. The 32-year old shooter won ANZ Championships with NSW Swifts and Adelaide Thunderbirds, and played for Collingwood Magpies before retiring at the end of 2018. She was part of the Australia squad at two World Championships and is a hugely successful Fast5 player, captaining the Australian Fast5 team at the 2014 World Series. Erin will be part of the 10-strong Manchester Thunder squad for the Championship which takes place at the Copper Box in London on Saturday, 12 October. Caroline’s back for 2020

Caroline O'Hanlon is back with Thunder for 2020. The Northern Ireland captain returns to Manchester for a third season. Caroline has played a highly influential role since joining Thunder for the 2018 season and provided vital leadership on and off court in the Championship-winning 2019 season. She has had a busy summer, captaining the Northern Ireland side at the Netball World Cup in Liverpool in July which finished in 10th place and taking her Gaelic Football team, Armagh, to the quarter-finals of the All Ireland Championships. Speaking about committing to Thunder for 2020, Caroline said: “I'm delighted to sign on with my third season at Thunder after such a great year last year. Malawi Queens sign up for Thunder’s title defence

Our squad for the defence of the Vitality Netball Superleague title will be boosted by two of Malawi’s leading netballers. Instrumental shooter Joyce Mvula, the 2019 Fans’ Player of the Season across Superleague, will return to the Black and Yellows for a fourth season. While, new for 2020 will be her fellow Malawian, defender Lauren Ngwira, who joins the Superleague champions from London Pulse. Joyce and Lauren were part of the Malawi Queens squad for the Netball World Cup in Liverpool this summer and were influential at opposite ends of the court in securing a sixth placed finish for the African side. Major investment for Thunder

Vitality Netball Superleague Champions Manchester Thunder have received a major boost with investment from one of the region’s leading businessmen. David Jennings, chief executive of leading door hardware supplier UAP Limited, based in Manchester, will join the Board of the Superleague franchise with his company Jennings Ventures Limited investing in Thunder. At a time of growth across netball, following England’s Commonwealth Games win and the World Cup in Liverpool, the investment will be used to grow the franchise’s infrastructure off court to ensure the success on it can continue for the future. One immediate impact will be the recruitment of Thunder’s first ever full-time franchise director as the countdown to the start of the new Superleague season in February 2020 continues. The new member of the businesses leadership team will run the day-to-day operations of Thunder and look to grow the commercial side to bring more investment into the franchise. ... More

Eleanor Cardwell returns in 2020

Eleanor Cardwell will be back in black and yellow for the 2020 season as the England Rose re-signs for the Superleague Champions. The 24-year old shooter, who was key to securing the victory in the 2019 Grand Final against Wasps when she came on in the final minutes, rejoined Thunder last year and proved invaluable in providing options in the shooting circle. She has now put pen to paper on a two-year deal which will keep her in the North West – the region where she grew up and rose through the ranks from youth level to Superleague – until at least 2021. Eleanor is Thunder’s latest signing for the 2020 campaign following the re-signing of Laura Malcolm and Kathryn Turner and new addition Ashleigh Neal.
