4th Annual Mike Greenwood Trophy

Thunder will once again welcome fellow Superleague teams for the annual Mike Greenwood Trophy.The tournament, now in its fourth year, has become a popular fixture in the pre-season calendar and this time around, will involve Celtic Dragons, Loughborough Lightning, Team Bath Team Northumbria and Yorkshire Jets.On Saturday 28th November, fans could get the chance to see new players and coaches in action for the first time, notably Thunder's Nat Haythornthwaite and Jets' Stacey Francis, who has made the switch from Team Bath. Senior squad members will also be joined by NPL players for the tournament. It will also be the first major outing for Black and Yellows coach Dan Ryan and former England boss Anna Stembridge (nee Mayes), who has joined Team Bath. Thunder have triumphed in the previous three tournaments, but were pushed right to the limit in last year's final, eventually fending off Loughborough Lightning 13-12. The contest, which is named in honour of former ... 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague

The 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague will see all eight teams battle it out in the same place on the opening day for Super Saturday. For the first time in the league's history, Thunder will join the other seven franchises for their first match in Birmingham on Saturday, January 30.Three other matches will also take place at the Genting Arena.Tickets will go on general sale this Friday at 11am through Sky Tickets, where one ticket will gain access to all four games.The event will be Superhero themed and fans are encouraged to dress in their team colours to roar on their heroes. The first centre pass will be at 2pm with last year’s runners-up Hertfordshire Mavericks facing Celtic Dragons. Thunder Volunteer Rebekah Turner nominated for Goalden Globe Award

Manchester Thunder volunteer Rebekah Turner has been nominated for an England Netball Goalden Globe Award. The 16-year-old from Denton has already scooped the North West Young Volunteer Award and is hoping to secure the national prize at a Great Gatsby-themed ceremony at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on Saturday, September 19. Rebekah is a key member of the 'Thunder Crew' group of volunteers on matchdays and beyond and is also one of the junior volunteers who works alongside the head coach at Denton Netball Club.  She helps to coach the Year 5 players and has done since they started at the club in Year 2. Rebekah's dedication to volunteering is also evident with her putting in many additional hours assisting at tournaments getting up very early and sometimes does not arrive home until after 7pm. The keen player has been involved in the England Pass on your Passion, completing 400 hours in 18 months.  The Goalden Globe ... Tracey Neville confirmed as permanent England Head Coach

England Netball is delighted to announce that Tracey Neville has been appointed as the permanent head coach of the England Roses. The former Manchester Thunder coach guided England to a bronze medal at the Netball World Cup in Australia last month, where they sealed third place with an emphatic 66-44 victory over Jamaica. Speaking of her appointment, the ex-England shooter said “I am extremely proud to have been appointed as the England Roses head coach on a full-time basis.  I look forward to implementing and developing a style of play that can take the Roses to the next level and to start competing in World finals.The focus is now for England to become the best in the world and I am passionate that we reach this goal. Thunder sign young England player Natalie Haythornthwaite

Manchester Thunder have signed young England player Natalie Haythornthwaite. The 22-year-old will make the switch across the Pennines from Roses rivals Yorkshire Jets for the 2016 season. Haythornthwaite, who was voted the 2015 Superleague Player of The Season, is the first signing for new Black and Yellows coach Dan Ryan. Ryan comes to England from Australian ANZ outfit Adelaide Thunderbirds, where he was assistant coach. Haythornthwaite has revealed it was Ryan's experience coaching in the Trans-Tasman league that helped her decide to join Thunder. The versatile Burnley-born star, who can play at wing attack or goal attack, said: “I think the main thing was to work under a coach with ANZ experience. It's the place every netballer strives to be, so to get as close to that world as I can, while still so close to home seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up. I want to keep developing as a player and challenge myself.
